Hej!

Hoppas att alla haft ett trevligt jullov och en bra start på terminen.

Onsdagen den 1 februari välkomnar vi nya studenter och gamla medlemmar med en pubkväll på V-Dala Nation från klockan 18.00 och några timmar framåt. Vi äter traditionell nationspubmat eller tar ett glas i gott sällskap! Det spelar ingen roll om du inte är medlem, det är bara att komma!

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas break and a good start of the new semester.

Wednesday, February 1st at 6 pm we will have a welcome back pub night for new and old students at V-Dala Nation. It doesn’t matter if you’re not a member, you very welcome to join us anyway!

Demonstrera mot tvångssterilisering av transpersoner i Uppsala på söndag 22/1 kl 14.00

Hej!

Alla som av någon anledning vill byta sitt juridiska kön måste idag enligt svensk lag steriliseras. Detta strider mot FNs deklaration för mänskliga rättigheter.

Det var för snart en vecka sedan, den 11 januari som information om att riksdagen kommit överens om att inte föreslå ett avskaffande av steriliseringstvånget vid juridiskt könsbyte spreds i medierna. Efter detta har flera ministrar nekat till en formell överenskommelse, och istället läggs ett förslag om en utredning fram.

SFQ tycker dock inte att en ytterligare utredning är nödvändig utan det borde vara en självklarhet av Sveriges lag följer FNs deklaration och att riksdagen avskaffar kravet om sterilisering för att byta juridiskt kön omedelbart

Nu på söndag, den 22 januari, klockan 14.00 kommer en demonstration mot tvångssteriliseringar hållas på Stora torget i Uppsala.

Christmas party at RFSL

For those of you who don’t know, RFSL is the national advocacy group for LGBTQ people, though they also do social stuff as you can see here. We’re sure you’re all busy putting in a final effort to your studies before the end of the year and/or preparing for christmas, but there is one thing that is definitely worth checking out: the RFSL christmas dinner on Thursday (the 15th)! The party will be held at the local headquarters, at s:t Göransgatan 22, from 18.00 to 20.00 in the evening. What’s more is that most of the menu will be up to the guests, and those who can are encouraged to bring food (preferrably vegan and gluten free, so that you can share with as many as possible). Movie night!

Tomorrow, the 8th, we’ll have a bit of cultural education and watch queer movies at Kalmar nation! The event will start at 19.00, and you’ll get to the TV room by going in through the pub entrance in the basement and climbing two stairs. The TV room will be just opposite the staircase on the first floor. Of course there will be soda and snacks for you to nibble on, but what movie will we be watching, you ask? Well, that is up to you! Wilde! Tonight

Tonight the queer club at Kalmar nation, Wilde!, is back for the last time this semester. They’ll be open between 20.00 and 02.00 and the entry fee will be 40/80 crowns, depending on wether you’re a member of the nation. Before 21.00 however, it’s free! So come dance with us!

World AIDS day

On Thursday, december 1st it’s World AIDS Day, where accross the world attention is brought to AIDS and HIV and how it affects people. Here in Uppsala, there are going to be a manifestation, a lecture and a film screening among other things. SFQ will be attending from the manifestation at Stora Torget at 11.00 am, so feel free to seek us out. If you don’t have time or want to attend during the rest of the day, most of the activities will be held at Slottsbiografen

Transgender day of rememberance

The Transgender day of rememberance falls on the 20th of November each year and was founded in 1998 to memorialize the people who have been killed due to Transphobia. It has since grown into an international event and in Sweden specifically, the scope has broadened to discrimination, unjust laws and other human rights violations that happen to those of us who don’t follow the norms set around gender and sex. Today there will be lectures, workshops and activities held in Stockholm – more information can be found here: http://www.rfsl.se/?p=4466

Our thoughts and hearts go out to those of you suffering because of transphobia. We set our hopes to putting an end to all of this, and offer our deepest gratitude and highest praise to all of you amazing people who are already turning the tide.

Queer club PULS tonight
